The Tasting Trail

Australia's ultimate food and beverage touring experience in North West Tasmania.

The Tasting Trail is a self-drive food and drink trail crafted to guide you and your taste buds through an exploration of the finest produce that Tasmania’s North West region has to offer.

April presents the ideal opportunity to explore the Tasting Trail, where more than 20 producers will take part in our thrilling event – TrailGraze. Prepare for exclusive behind-the-scenes encounters paired with entertainment and, naturally, exceptional produce. Enjoy guided tours, interactive workshops, live musical performances, intimate sessions with the creators, and, naturally, indulgent tastings; because no culinary affair is truly complete without them.

The TrailGraze is held over 19th-21st April this year.

Work up a TrailGraze-worthy appetite with a morning trek to the summit of Stanley’s iconic Nut, and explore the town’s collective of galleries and giftware.

  • Take a scenic 40-minute drive south to Alchymia Distillery (ages 18+ only) where the food and spirits will flow all weekend. Saturday’s (12-3.30pm) ultimate TrailGraze Mixer will bring together fellow Tasting Trail favourites La Cántara Artisan Cheeses and Tarkine Fresh Oysters for a gin and whisky pairing experience, and Sunday (12-3.30pm) will serve up wood-fired pizzas alongside live music.

  • Continue east to Burnie’s Communion Brewery for a late lunch (or second lunch – it’s TrailGraze, after all) alongside complimentary tastings of fresh hop ale and half-price beer paddles.

  • A short 10 minutes down the road will have you settled in for happy hour at Hellyers Road Distillery, where even the designated driver can indulge responsibly with a range of low-alcohol cocktails developed especially for the TrailGraze touring experience. There’s also the chance to bottle your own whisky to take a taste of the North West home with you.

  • Complete the loop back to Stanley in time for a dinner of delicious crayfish specials at the iconic Hursey Seafoods.

  • Got a day to spare? Start with Blue Hills Honey, producers of world-class premium honey at Mawbanna, followed by lunch then a stroll at nearby Dip Falls.

If you have plans to whip around the Tasting Trail in a weekend, you might need to divide to conquer. We recommend focusing on mini tours so you spend less time in the car and more time enjoying our local produce.
